Auto vCard Removes Slashes

Well, I guess I need to get back to work. I am back from a weekend in Chicago for a wedding and a nice, long vacation to New Zealand (what a place!). Time to get back to work.

I made a quick fix to the Auto vCard functionality. The script will now strip out the annoying slashes from the text. Prior to the fix, the last name O’Malley would look like O\’Malley. That’s fixed. It will now display properly. This was fixed for all of the fields the functionality supports.

    The version of Auto vCard that is up on appexchange still has a filedate of 2/28/2006 and does not appear to have solved the \ problem. Perhaps you forgot to upload the latest version after you resolved the problem?

    Phil, I should have been more clear in my post. As an Auto vCard user, no changes are required in your org. The script that runs on the arrowpointe.com web server was updated with the change. The link in Salesforce.com stays the same.

    It fixed the ‘ \ problem but NOT the comma, \ problem. That still exitsts. For example if a company name is ACCRUIT, LLC it displays as ACCRUIT,\LLC

    I found out something interesting about this issue. The vCard specification requires commas to be escaped (a backslash is in front of them). However, Outlook and Windows Address Book do not “un-escape” the comma character. This is apparently not resolved in Outlook 2003 either.

    I tried stripping it out, but it wasn’t working properly. I think I will leave it the way it is for now.
